@twitter (guildwars2): Live-Tweet des Dynamic Events Design Panel

PAX Day Two is just ten minutes away. We're kicking things off with Dynamic Events panel, which I'll be live tweeting. Exciting! ~DC

Colin Johanson, Eric Flannum, and Jeff Grubb have kicked off the panel. Attendees will be able to create an event that appears in GW2! ~DC

Eric's delivering overview of history and concept of dynamic events. "The #1 thing about events is immediacy." ~DC

Eric's using an example of an event chain in GW2 w/ harpies infesting a watering hole, and impact that has on the world around it ~DC

Eric: It's crucial to design dynamic events so that players want to succeed, and that other players are allies, not rivals.

In the panel, Eric describes more cool stuff: Those golem battlesuits can be earned as a reward for completing an event.I want one. ~DC

Eric clarifies:"Events are not permanent, but they have a persistent effect. It stays that way until someone comes along to change it." ~DC

Permanent consequences take place in the character's personal storyline, however. ~D

What kind of event will we design? Jeff Grubb takes us through potential locations to choose from. Maybe the charr Flame Legion zone? ~DC

Timberline Falls is the setting for our event, featuring quaggan, an aquatic race who "get beat up a lot" says Jeff, but can "hulk out." ~DC

Other stuff in our event zone - a huge monolith that grawl worship as a god which is actually the work of a crafty asura in "Oz" mode ~DC

Colin explains some other events we've created for this zone, like an underwater krait city, Order of Whispers spies, and more... ~DC

Eric notes that sometimes races in the game will be your opponents, sometimes your allies. It's not always black and white... ~DC

We'll be designing an event in an underwater section with hylek, quaggan, and krait. ~DC

The vast majority of people want to design a quaggan event. YAY! They're agreeable toad people, but "never make one angry" says Jeff. ~DC

Man, I work at ArenaNet but I am constantly blown away by how intricate and well thought out the GW2 event chains are... ~DC

We're kicking around ideas for events in a krait vs quaggan undersea conflict. Really interesting ideas from attendees. ~DC

Some concept titles: Sylvari Raiders, Recruit Quaggan Allies, and Epic Shark Battle of DOOM! ~DC

Krait are slavers who build undersea towers that rise out of the water, where they store air-breathing slaves. Surrounded by sharks! ~DC

Eric's focusing on common ideas from the brainstorming session, such as undersea boss battles and luring others to attack the krait. ~DC

We're going to focus on creating a chain of events on attacking the malicious krait, foes of the adorable quaggan ~DC

A diagram! Event design is very non-linear - the big boss battle is supported by other events that smaller groups can play. ~DC

@KTR_Ravious Quaggan are happy, chubby little undersea toad people who "hulk out" when angry... and then feel bad about it later. ~DC

Eric: "As designers, when we need a super-weapon, we get our artists involved to determine what the super-weapon looks like." ~DC

Kicking around more cool ideas. What about a super-armored quaggan? "Iron Quaggan!" Jeff Grubb says.

Event ideas include arming/training the quaggan, escort missions, rebuilding a hylek village destroyed by krait... Lots of cool ideas. ~DC

Eric wraps up a productive, collaborative session - "You can look forward to playing this event chain in the game." So cool. ~DC
